Day 43 (French class #7)

So like yesterday, I only had to really work the morning. I got the kids ready for school and took them there but when I got home, I went back to bed! I got up at 11, picked up Noa from school, brought him home for lunch, and then put him down for his nap. While he napped, I watched French TV until Geraldine got home. When she got home a little before 2, I headed to class. Georgette, my prof, was late getting there so one of the other professors worked with me for the first 1/2 hour. This lady was super nice and wanted to know all about being an American. Having done my article’s resume on the US Presidential Election didn’t help either; that just aided in starting new question topics. I didn’t mind answering her questions though (aside from the ones I had no clue about) because she was very complimentative on my French speaking. My writing…not so much. She didn’t say anything bad about it, she just made a lot of corrections. However when Georgette came in, she revised my resume again, and said that some of the things the first lady changed were personal preferences, and not necessarily grammatical faults. That made me feel a little better.

The dictee she gave me today was about how cellphones are bad for the brain and the topic was very interesting. She gave me the newspaper article at the end to keep since she realized I valued the subject. I told her I’d show the paper to Geraldine because it was not only medically related but also kid related. (It said kids under 12 should not have cell phones at all.) Well, at the end of class Georgette told me, which Geraldine had prefaced me about earlier today, that this class only went till the end of this month because come July…it’s summertime! (For everyone.) That means next week is our last class, but Georgette said today that she couldn’t come next week do to a doctor’s appointment, so if I still wanted to come to class and meet with another professor I could, or if I wanted to email my paper to her for revisions, I could just do that. She gave me her card and said if I wanted to continue emailing my article summaries all summer I could and she’d check them for me. I told her that was nice and that I’d plan on continue doing that. So technically today was the last day of class :( But I really am still going to continue writing compositions each week, because I’m getting better at it.

After class, I was done for the day. I ran a DVD back to the library, bought a baguette, and went to a cafe to write Stephen a letter. I had a coffee while there and evesdropped in on an interview going on next to me. A highschooler was interviewing for a summer job and I found it very interesting because this past semester in French class, we talked a good bit about searching for, finding, and applying for jobs in France. (Dr. Jacks, you would have really enjoyed listening in on the employer today with me!) When I left the cafe, I stopped by the post office to mail off the letter and then dropped by the park to say hi to the kids and Geraldine. I saw the other nannies so I went and sat with them for a while. Katja informed us all that this weekend there is a “French woodstock” going on in Paris with over 200 bands and performers. It’s called “fete de la musique” and because it’s going on all weekend, the metro is staying open all night Friday and Saturday! This is so exciting! We’re all going to do dinner together at Katja’s Saturday and then head into Paris for some concerts. Even though I don’t know any of the bands on the list, I’m sure it’s still bound to be a fun time.

After the park I came home and folded a little laundry until dinner. For dinner we have really good “ravoli de boeuf” with fettuchine and salad. After dinner I watched a little French TV, read, and blogged. Now that I’m done, I’m going to head to bed shortly because tomorrow’s my 3rd morning in a row I’m working. The kids don’t have school tomorrow so I get to sleep in a half an hour longer!
